The Food Security Coalition Member organizations are in coalition to achieve food security in Vermont by 2035. We are on the road to food security, and our progress is driven by the expertise, commitment, and synergy of member organizations. Membership is a high level of commitment.
Organizations interested in joining the Coalition as a Member will go through an application process. The application process helps both the Coalition and the applying organization consider whether Membership is the right fit. We encourage organizations to become Allies, even if they are considering applying for Membership.
Coalition Members meaningfully contribute to the advancement of the Roadmap’s priorities with strategic thinking and shared resources. All Member organizations work with a high level of collaboration and accountability necessary to advance the goals and strategies outlined in the Roadmap. Member organizations might not work on advancing every objective or strategy, depending on their organizational missions and priorities, but agree to shared Coalition principles and operating guidelines.
Member commitments include
- A commitment to creating food security in Vermont by following the guidance of the Vermont Food Security Roadmap to 2035
- Active participation in Coalition activities including: staffing (at minimum) two committees, attending annual events, participating in strategic thinking and activities, and committing to resourcing shared Coalition needs as appropriate for their organizational capacity and type
- Joining the shared Food Security Coalition contract with a consulting firm that provides management and political advocacy services to the Coalition
- Participating in the development of the Coalition’s annual Vermont policy slate, through optional suggestion of policy items and required participation in annual voting
- A commitment to shared principles
The steps of the Coalition Member application process are:
- An authorized representative fills out a Membership Inquiry Form. (Review the Inquiry Form questions here)
- The Coalition will offer the organization a meeting(s) to discuss Coalition responsibilities, benefits, and requirements further
- Upon mutual agreement, the organization will be invited to fill out a Coalition application
- The Coalition’s Operations Committee will then assess the application and provide a recommendation to the Coalition’s Executive Committee
- The Executive Committee meets several times throughout the year and holds the final decision on membership
- If approved as a Member, the organization will be notified and someone from the Coalition will promptly coordinate onboarding and introductory information
The application process may take several months.
